RULES AND REGULATIONS
- All general rules and regulations for the CMR Farm Fair apply to the Goat Department.
- Only 4-H/FFA Members actively enrolled in a 4-H Club or FFA Chapter in Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock Counties are eligible to exhibit in the Goat Department.
- All goats must be owned or under the care of the exhibitors by May 4, 2011. All market kids to be shown must be officially tagged-in on May 4, 2011 at the Ag Enterprises. An exhibitor may tag-in up to 3 kids from which to choose their market kids.
- If a project goat should die or have a severe health problem prior to June 8, 2011 the exhibitor may, with the approval of his/her project leader, replace this animal with another animal.
- All goats must comply with the Federal Scrapie Eradication Program guidelines.
- Upon arrival at the CMR Farm Fair, all goats must be checked by a Department Chairman at the time of unloading for signs of any contagious disease. Animals deemed unfit or unhealthy must be removed from the show grounds immediately. THE DECISION OF DEPARTMENT LEADERS IS FINAL.
- All bucks must be castrated. All meat goats’ horns must be tipped or may be dehorned. Dairy goats must be dehorned.
- Entry fees are $2 for non-sale, breeding animals and $15 per sale kid. All but the $2 entry fee is refundable if the market animal is not sold at the CMR Farm Fair. ($15 sale animal fee includes buyer rosette, buyer recognition & buyer dinner)
The Entry Deadline is June 18, 2011. All Entries received after the entry deadline will be charged double the regular entry fee rate!
- Exhibitors are restricted to 2 market kids and a limit of 2 animals per class in the breeding shows. Total goats exhibited cannot exceed 10 per exhibitor.
- The Department Leaders may, at their discretion, split, combine or eliminate any class or classes based on the number of entries received. The decision of the Department Leaders is final.
- Premiums are: 1st-$6, 2nd-$5, 3rd-$4, 4th-$3, 5th-$2 and 6th-$1 for meat and breeding classes.
- All exhibitors are required to show in their appropriate showmanship class. Premiums for showmanship are: 1st-$12, 2nd-$10, 3rd-$8, 4th-$6, 5th- $4 and 6th-$4. No premiums will be given to youth 5-8 division.
Participation ribbons will be given to youth 5-8 years of age.
- A completed record book needs to be turned in to the Extension Office by September 30th.
- All goat pens are to be provided and setup by the exhibitor/family in areas pre-designated by the Goat Department Chairmen.
- Dairy goat exhibitors will wear dairy whites with closed toe shoes or boots and matching belt. Tank tops, halter tops and clogs are not acceptable.
- Meat goat exhibitors will wear short or long sleeve dress shirts, trousers and closed toe shoes or boots with matching belt. Tank tops, halter tops, and clogs are not acceptable.
- All market kids will be weighed and divided into classes by weight. There will be a minimum weight of 30 lbs. and a maximum weight of 100 lbs. Exhibitors are encouraged to present their market kids in the 60 pound weight range.
- Doe kids may be shown in the age appropriate class in the market section
OR the breeding section, not both. Wethers and doe kids will be co-exhibited in the market classes.
- Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion market animals are required to be sold. The sale of other market goats at the CMR Farm Fair is optional.
- THE DECISION OF DEPARTMENT LEADERS IS FINAL.
