RULES AND REGULATIONS
MARKET LAMBS
- The establishment of ownership of market lambs must be by May 4. All market lambs to be shown in CMR Farm Show must be officially weighed in on May 4. Maximum weight is 85 pounds. Only market lambs will be weighed in and can only be shown in market lamb classes. These lambs are ineligible to show as breeding animals.
- Only market lambs grading Blue O or Red O and weighing 95-145 pounds are eligible for championships and to sell. Lambs weighing less than 95 pounds will show in the feeder-lamb class. Lambs weighing 150 pounds and up will show in a heavy weight class and are ineligible to compete for Champion and Reserve Champion and will not sell. Any market lamb not being sold must be declared as such and cannot compete for Champion and Reserve Champion. All sheep not being shown must be removed from the Farm Show grounds by 8 p.m. on weigh-in day.
THERE WILL BE NO RE-WEIGHS OF LAMBS. ONLY MARKET LAMBS SHOWN AT CMR FARM SHOW ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CARCASS CONTEST.
- Only two market lambs per exhibitor may be sold. A total of three market or feeder lambs may be shown. Only ewe and wether lambs can be shown and sold. All market lambs must not have lost their baby teeth. All market and feeder lambs must be castrated by May weigh-in. No testicular tissue can be present at time of Farm Show. Market classes will be divided by weight.
- If a market lamb should die or have a severe health problem within 30 days of weigh-in, the 4-H/FFA member with the approval of their leader and the Sheep Department Chairman will be allowed to replace this lamb with another lamb. Any replacement lamb is ineligible to compete in the performance competition.

All sexually intact market lambs (ewes) must be identified by an official scrapie ear tag at the May weigh-in.
BREEDING SHEEP
- All purebred sheep must be registered in the flock books of their respective breeds. Pending registration is acceptable for lambs. Registration papers will be checked.
- Entry must be the property of the exhibitor by March 1st of current year for yearlings and aged sheep and by market lamb weigh in date for breeding lambs.

All breeding sheep will be identified by official scrapie identification.
GENERAL RULES
- Limit of two entries per exhibitor per class except for market lambs where three market lambs may be entered. A maximum of 10 head may be entered including breeding and no more than three market lambs.
- Upon arrival at the Farm Show the Sheep Department leaders will check animal’s health for disease. Animals must be free of communicable diseases including but not limited to foot rot, sore mouth, ringworm, etc. Animals deemed unfit or unhealthy must be removed from the show grounds. All sheep must be examined prior to unloading. Decision of the leaders is final.
- Breeding sheep must have less than one inch of wool. Market lambs should be slick shorn. Wool breeds must have more than one inch of wool.
- Entry fee is $2.00 for non -sale animals and $15.00 per head for sale animals. ($15.00 sale animal entry fee includes buyer rosette, buyer recognition ad, buyer hospitality tent and $2 entry fee.)
- All sheep pens will be set up with metal stakes and gates must be tied with a chain and snap. Each exhibitor will supply the snap, chain and post.
- Premiums for classes: 1st - $6, 2nd - $5, 3rd - $4, 4th - $3, 5th - $2, and 6th - $1
- Premiums for Showmanship Classes: 1st - $12, 2nd - $10, 3rd - $8, 4th - $6, 5th - $4 and 6th - $2
- Only 4-H/FFA Members actively enrolled in a sheep project in Culpeper, Madison, or Rappahannock counties are eligible to exhibit in the Sheep Department.
- If a sheep has a prolapse at the time of entry to the Farm Show, the sheep will not be allowed to enter the Farm Show. If a prolapse occurs during the Farm Show a veterinarian will make the determination if the prolapse can be corrected or if the sheep should be removed from the Farm Show. Sheep with an uncorrected prolapse will not be allowed to show and will be removed from the fairgrounds.

BREEDING SHEEP
There will be classes for all breeds of sheep, but there must be four sheep entered in a breed to justify selecting a Champion or Reserve Champion. If less than four sheep in a breed: all ewes will show in one class and all rams in one class.
Commercial (C), Suffolk (S), Dorset (D), Wool Breed (W), Border Leicester (L), Cheviot (A), Other (O).

D-14 Flock Class: Will consist of a ram (any age), a yearling OR aged ewe and 2 lambs under 1 year of age.
D-15 Progeny: Consist of either a ram or ewe with 1 lamb from that breeding. Ownership date is March 1st.
D-16 Market Lamb (non bred and owned): Classes will be broken down by weight.
CHAMPION AND RESERVE MARKET LAMB
D-17 Bred & Owned Market Lamb: Must have owned Dam at time of breeding. Classes will be broken down by weight.

D-18 Market Lamb pen of two: All market lambs are eligible. Will show in one class, A Champion and Reserve will be selected.
Entry fee of $10 per exhibitor to be paid on Thursday after weigh in. Premiums for this class will come from the entry fees collected for this
class. This class will be judged on how well the two lambs match as a pair.

LAMB CARCASS EVALUATION CONTEST

- Participation is voluntary. This will be a combination of ultra sound data and weight of gain data. If you wish to participate and receive any of the following awards you must have the ultra sound done during the Farm Show.
- Only market lambs shown at CMR are eligible for the Carcass Contest.
- To be considered for Champion and Reserve, lambs must have: Back fat between 0.10 and 0.30 inches. An average daily gain that meets or exceeds the average ADG for all lambs entered in the contest. Minimum live weight of 110 pounds. Must meet or exceed minimum rib eye area for carcass weight. Carcass data will be recorded by ultrasound and class placing will be determined using BCTRC and meeting the above requirements.
- Awards for the highest ADG and largest rib eye per weight will also be given.
- ENTRY FEE WILL BE $5.00. Fee will be paid during the Farm Show to the Carcass Committee.
